Stephanie P. Karn

Stephanie Karn is a seasoned litigator. She oversees the firm's employment practice while complementing its existing securities arbitration and litigation practices.

Stephanie advises employers, including colleges and universities, on ways to avoid litigation and/or reduce exposure to litigation claims. She provides counseling on all aspects of employment law, including compliance with employment statutes and regulations, drafting and implementation of policies, handbooks and employment agreements, harassment prevention training, employee investigations, and employee termination. Her practice covers the full breadth of employment and securities issues, including discrimination, FMLA, sexual harassment, covenants not to compete, trade secret violations, whistleblower claims, breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, wrongful discharge, negligence, defamation, raiding, and customer complaints.

Additionally, Stephanie counsels and defends colleges and universities on matters involving tenure issues, academic freedom, student complaints, faculty and staff handbooks, drug testing, NCAA issues, Title IX, and reductions in force for both staff and faculty for institutions of higher education.

Stephanie has litigated in numerous state and federal courts, including the Supreme Court of the United States, federal and state administrative agencies, arbitrations and mediations.

Additional Information

Stephanie is admitted to practice before the state courts of Virginia, the United States Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and the Ninth Circuit, the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia and the Northern District of Texas, and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
